Festivals & Events on the Emerald Coast

The Emerald Coast doesn't slow down between beach days. Throughout the year, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and the surrounding towns fill up with festivals that draw locals and visitors alike. Here's what's worth planning your trip around.

Destin Pirate Festival

Every October, pirates take over Destin Harbor. The Destin Pirate Festival brings tall ships, costumed crews, cannon fire, and a full weekend of waterfront entertainment. Kids love the swashbuckling shows; adults tend to gravitate toward the craft beer and live music. It's one of the most photographed events on the coast.

Ironman Florida

Panama City Beach hosts one of the most popular Ironman triathlons in the country each November. Athletes swim 2.4 miles in the Gulf, bike 112 miles through the Florida Panhandle, then run a full marathon to the finish line on the beach. Even if you're not racing, the energy on race day is worth showing up for.

Destin Seafood Festival

Held each October at the Destin Harbor Boardwalk, this three-day festival celebrates the local fishing fleet with fresh Gulf shrimp, crab, oysters, and fish. Local restaurants and vendors line the waterfront, and live music runs all weekend. It's the best single event to eat your way through the coast's seafood scene.

Baytowne Wharf Events

Sandestin's Baytowne Wharf runs a packed calendar year-round: fireworks on the water, holiday markets, wine festivals, and outdoor concerts. It's walkable from many of the resort's properties and easy to drop into on a whim.

Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic

One of the largest billfish tournaments in the Southeast, the Blue Marlin Classic runs out of Destin each June. The weigh-ins at the harbor draw big crowds, and the dockside atmosphere is a good time whether or not you have a boat in the water.

Plan Around the Calendar

Fall is the busiest festival season on the Emerald Coast, but there's something happening nearly every month. If you're planning a trip around a specific event, book early — properties near the harbor and the beach fill up fast during festival weekends.
